Why Ohio Aerospace Day 2011?

Industry trends show an increasing market in aerospace technology both domestically and globally. Ohio boasts over 800 private companies, 70,000 specialty workers, two federal laboratories, a network of higher education institutions, and numerous non-profit organizations engaged in the aerospace industry, well positioning the state to take advantage of the market growth.

In Ohio, federal, industry, academic and non-profit entities span the civilian and military market making Ohio unique in the nation in the sheer breadth and scope of our aerospace and aviation industry. To recognize the synergies of abundant state-wide entities and to maximum the aerospace potential in Ohio, we must work together to achieve a common vision for this critical industry in our state. In May, 2008 our State's one voice for aerospace was featured with Ohio's first Aerospace day in Columbus Ohio. In order to share more widely the importance of the Aerospace sector to Ohio today and in the future, we propose a 2011 Ohio Aerospace Day event that will achieve these goals:

Goals

  1. Increase awareness in the Ohio public, Ohio state government, of: (a) the importance of aerospace and business aviation to the economy of Ohio; and (b) the need to protect and grow jobs in the aerospace industry in Ohio.
  2. To put forth to the Ohio legislature and executive branch, a set of key asks that will: (a) address identified industry challenges; (b) will protect key Aerospace assets that Ohio enjoys today; and (c) position Ohio for future growth in the Aerospace industry.
